Duration, dates and participants
The team of EProjectConsult, the International department of the A Rocca Artistical Association took the role of intermediary partner for a group from the Centro de Estudios Academia Porcel in Spain in the frame of Lifelong Learning Programme Leonardo da Vinci.
The duration of the project was almost four weeks, from the 3rd of July to the 31st of July 2013. During the project we hosted six participants and maintained their placement in the six different enterprises. The overall goal of this project was to give all the participants an opportunity to gain an experience in their domain, which is hairdressing and esthetics.

Preparation of the mobility project
In order to make a cooperation between both organizations effective, to guarantee the best quality of the project and to satisfy participant’s expectations and needs, we have elaborated the program of the placement in strict cooperation. We have exchanged e-mails and arranged skype conferences in order to discuss the aims of the project, to elaborate the plan of activities, to explain all the doubts and to answer to all the questions.
In process of candidate selection, we hold the online interviews with each of the participant and their supervisors in order to acknowledge the candidate willingness, motivation and expectations of the future training practice abroad.
Arrival of the participants
The participants arrived in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto on the 3rd of July 2013. The next day they had an informative welcome meeting, designed to give the participants all information they require during their stay in Sicily. Firstly, they had the introduction to the program in general and they met our professional EprojectConsult team. Later the students were provided with the plan of the city and were acquainted with all the hospitalities of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto. Participants were briefed about the cultural aspects of their life in Sicily: the work style in Italy, rules to follow, behavior and other information was explained to the participants. The Help me card with useful numbers and phrases in Italian, and the leaflet about all the useful information they may need (address, rules, tips, etc) during their stay were distributed. The next day followed the individual introduction to the hosting organizations – the staff of A Rocca to the assigned hosting placement brought each attendant, thus the information about the organization and applied work activities, obligations and tasks they will be involved in during the project were explained.
For all the participants the A Rocca organization provided the transfer from the airport of Palermo to their apartments in the center of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto.
Accommodation of the participants
Participants of the project were accommodated in two different flats in Barcellona P.G. town. Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto is located in the north coast of Sicily. It belongs to the Province of Messina, one of the most important cities of Sicily. The city proper has a population of over 40,000 inhabitants. The strategic location is surrounded by many wonderful cities: Messina 45 km; Palermo 180 km; Catania 180 km; Taormina 80 km; Agrigento 200 km; Aeolian Islands 20 km. Barcellona P.G. is a very nice town, located very close to the seaside area, very busy during the day and very calm during the night time. Moreover, there are many interesting places to visit, like natural parks, museums, ancient villages and Greek/Roman areas.
The flats for participants were fully equipped (including kitchenware, washing machine or bed covers) and well located in the city center. The participants were living in the following locations: six persons in Via Trieste 48, 1st floor and the leader of the group in Via Arcodaci 44, 5th floor. In apartments there were individual and double rooms.
Our participants from Spain had a unique opportunity to get an experience in the field of hairdressing and esthetics. During their stay in Sicily they were working in six different placements located in the city of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto.

- Verónica Ávila Rodríguez – Style Nino Biondo, Via Vittorio Madia 25, Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, Working Hours (eight hours per day) from Tuesday till Saturday
- Ana María Luque Vargas – Coiffeur Rosina, Via S. Giovanni, Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, Working Hours (eight hours per day) from Tuesday till Saturday
- Cristina Miranda Rodríguez – Coiffeur Nobile Antonella, Via Arcodaci Tenente Colonnello, 62, Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, Working Hours ( 8 hours per day) from Tuesday till Saturday
- Antonio García Fernández – Style Nino Biondo, Via Vittorio Madia 25, Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, Working Hours (eight hours per day) from Tuesday till Saturday
- Manuel Raya Requena – Coiffeur Nobile Antonella, Via Arcodaci Tenente Colonnello, 62, Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, Working Hours (eight hours per day) from Tuesday till Saturday
Evaluation of the project
The evaluation of the project is excellent. Employees of the A Rocca Association and persons involved in this project hope it was an enriched and useful experience for all the participants. The monitoring team did its best in order to satisfy the expectations of each participants and to ensure the communication with the sending organization at each stage of the project. According to the motivation and experience of each participant, they performed different tasks in the fields of hairdressing and esthetics. By participating in this project they gained valuable international work experience in their professional fields. Additionally, they acquired skills and competences which will help them to start their future professional carriers. They had also an opportunity to better understood cultural differences and norms in the Italian workplace. Moreover, we hope that this gained abroad work experience enhanced their independence and flexibility and communication skills.
The participants seemed to be satisfied with this project. According to their opinion, it was an interesting and useful experience. We hope they found inspiration and got new ideas about how to deal with their future career in their country. We are satisfied because due to the participation in the program, the participants could enrich their professional experience.
We hope we can continue our cooperation with Centro de Estudios Academia Porcel.
